QUIMERAS
with Gaëlle Solal

Composers and performers, leaders and peoples - who hasn't found refuge from the harsh realities of modern life in the chimera of music? In this programme, which gives pride of place to the music of South America, guitarist Gaëlle Solal and cellist Pierre Fontenelle take you on a journey through duets from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, combining the audacity of their own arrangements with rare original works for cello and guitar.

The Argentinian Ginastera and the Brazilians Gnattali and Villa-Lobos dreamt, through their music, of a peaceful union between the classical and popular music of their respective countries. In the depths of Brazil, bossa nova - represented here by O Barquinho - seduces with the simple optimism of its lyrics, and the jazz influence of Frenchman Duplessy and Brazilian Moacir Santos takes its audience into a utopia where only freedom and dance reign.
